Features & Benefits
Using a clutch alignment tool ensures proper alignment, preventing errors during installation and ensuring a smooth, secure clutch engagement. |
Installing a new clutch can be a frustrating task, especially when dealing with the weight of a transmission beneath your car. The last thing you want is to redo the work because the clutch plate slipped out of alignment and wonât engage with the input shaft. To avoid this, use a clutch alignment tool. These simple tools, usually made of injection-molded plastic or nylon, are designed to ensure proper alignment and come in different sizes to match your transmission. The key is knowing the spline count on the input shaftâif the splines donât align, the tool wonât work. Never try to use a tool that doesnât fully engage the splines. If the tool doesnât fit the pilot bearing or bushing correctly, itâs the wrong size, and youâll need to find the right one. To use the tool, insert it into the clutch plate, making sure the clutch is facing the right direction and the tool passes through the splines. Place the clutch onto the flywheel and engage the alignment tool into the pilot bearing or bushing at the center of the crankshaft. Tighten the clutch against the flywheel, ensuring the tool stays securely in place. After installing the pressure plate, check that the tool remains properly seated. Once everything is tightened to spec, the alignment tool stays in the clutch until youâre ready to install the transmission. Always use the correct tool for your specific setup, as each application requires a different one. |
